Dear Editor

I am writing to introduce you to a new Association established by a group of independent ethical practitioners in private practice to monitor, promote and develop the medical treatment of obesity.

I enclose herewith two documents for your information. The first is a general briefing document which introduces the Association, You may access the Association’s Code of Ethics and Guidelines through our website – www.omaorg.com

The second is a press statement following the decision by the European Court of First Instance late last year on the legitimate position of a range of appetite suppressant medicines.

Among the key issues which the Association wishes to address, with Government support, is the role of the private sector in the treatment of Obesity, and the practice of direct purchasing of prescription medicines by the public either by direct mail or through the internet. The latter issue we have raised with the Medicines Control Agency and are awaiting a response.

I would be pleased to discuss the above issues with you and arrange interviews with members of the Trustees best qualified to respond to your questions.

Yours sincerely

Professor Tony Meehan
Acting Chairman
